At the last of 3 Advisory Committee meetings, members from Finland, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden, Türkiye, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Uzbekistan asked a critical question: Will the proposed actions work across the diverse realities of the WHO European Region?

The meeting concluded the Committee’s work from 2025 into 2026 on “Ageing is living: a strategy for promoting a lifetime of health and well-being in the WHO European Region 2026–2030”. Members brought their country experience while looking beyond national contexts to help shape a strategy for the entire Region.

The Committee tested the strategy’s evidence, direction and feasibility, including its implications for health and long-term care systems, workforce capacity, financing and implementation in resource-constrained settings. Members also considered political and institutional sensitivities and how national and subnational examples could support delivery and shared learning.

This final review informed further refinements ahead of 2 formal technical consultations with WHO/Europe’s 53 Member States. By testing the proposed actions against country realities, the Advisory Committee helped shape a strategy designed not only for adoption, but for implementation.
