On February 12, 2002, a new treaty banning the use of child combatants will enter into force, having achieved the ten ratifications necessary on November 12. Human Rights Watch has played a leading role in the campaign for a global ban on the use of child soldiers since 1998. Our research helped to bring this urgent issue to international attention.
